Norwegian Cruise Line Reveals Name of New Prima-Class Ship

Norwegian Cruise Line revealed the name of its third Prima-class ship today–Norwegian Aqua.

The sister ship to Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Aqua is currently under construction with renowned Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri. Once completed, Norwegian Aqua will be ten percent larger than her sister ships in size at 1,056 feet long and capacity accommodating 3,571 guests at double occupancy.

Her first voyages, which are currently open for booking, will embark from Port Canaveral, Florida. Itineraries include Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas.

Norwegian Aqua is a true testament of fusing together what represents the future of our Brand as the first ship in the Prima Plus Class, and our commitment to pushing the boundaries in guest-first experiences that will make new waves at sea,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “Named for both the beautiful shades of blue from the ocean and our connection to the sea, Norwegian Aqua will feature new, elevated and exhilarating offerings that once again showcase NCL as the innovator in the industry and as a key contributor to a new era of cruising.”

Some of those “new, elevated and exhilarating offerings” include expanded outdoor spaces including the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster, and the Glow Court, a digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor. Norwegian Aqua will also have new luxurious accommodations in  the cruise line’s premium keycard-access-only-complex, The Haven by Norwegian. The Haven aboard Norwegian Aqua will offer the largest Haven complex and will debut the cruise line’s Three-Bedroom Duplex Haven Suites. The four two-story suites will feature three bedrooms, three bathrooms, separate living and dining areas and more.

The hull of the ship will be a lively and colorful design by the cruise line’s first-ever major female artist, Allison Hueman. The design is entitled “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” and is curated by Goldman Global Arts. Unlike her sister ships, the paint scheme of Norwegian Aqua’s hull will be colorful with yellow, blue, teal, orange, pink and purple shades. Hueman’s distinctive style will evoke “modern mythology through colorful mashups of abstract and figurative representations of sea and sky, ruled by ancient goddesses.”

“I’m honored, not only to be the first major female hull artist for Norwegian Cruise Line, but to also know that my artwork will be roaming the seas touching different parts of the world,” said Allison Hueman, Filipino-American multidisciplinary artist. “It’s incredibly special for me to partner with a brand that believes in the magical connection between art and exploration.”

Norwegian Aqua will offer itineraries all year long. Beginning April 2025, Norwegian Aqua will offer seven-day Caribbean sailings from Port Canaveral. From August through October 2025, she will then offer five- and seven-day voyages to Bermuda from New York City, and from October 2025 through April 2026, she will be in Miami and offer five- and seven-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries.
